Circumcision is a surgical operation to remove the overlong foreskin. The process mainly includes five steps: preoperative preparation, anesthesia and disinfection, circumcision, hemostasis and suturing, and bandaging and fixation.

In the preoperative preparation stage, you need to sign an informed consent form and complete basic blood tests, coagulation function and other basic tests. The doctor will confirm that there are no contraindications to the surgery. Local anesthesia is routinely used. Children may need intravenous combined anesthesia. After the anesthesia takes effect, a tourniquet is applied to the root of the penis and the surgical area is disinfected. The traditional surgical method uses hemostatic forceps to fix the inner and outer plates of the foreskin and then performs a circular excision. Laser or electrosurgical resection can reduce bleeding. Currently, the commercial ring method is widely used. The foreskin is compressed with a plastic ring to cause it to naturally necrosis and fall off. After resection, absorbable sutures are used to intermittently suture the wound edges of the inner and outer plates. In a few cases, electrocoagulation is required to stop bleeding, and gauze is used for pressure bandaging and fixed dressings to prevent displacement. It is necessary to observe whether there is active bleeding within 24 hours after the operation. The dressing will be changed for the first time after 3 days. The sutures will fall off on their own in 7-10 days.

Avoid strenuous exercise and sex within 1 month after surgery, wear loose cotton underwear to reduce friction, and use iodophor cotton swabs to clean the wound after urination. If there is persistent bleeding, cracking of sutures or body temperature exceeding 38 degrees Celsius, timely follow-up is required. During the healing period, erection pain may occur at night, which is normal and can be relieved by cold compress. Keep the perineum dry daily, take oral antibiotics as directed by the doctor to prevent infection, and evaluate the healing 6 weeks after surgery.
