What does foreskin mean?

Excessive foreskin refers to the phenomenon that when the penis is weak or erect, the foreskin completely covers the glans penis and urethral opening, and cannot freely turn up to expose the glans penis.

The criteria for judging foreskin usually include two key conditions. The first is the degree of coverage of the glans penis by the foreskin. In the natural state, the foreskin completely wraps the glans penis beyond the level of the urethral opening. The second is the mobility of the foreskin. When the foreskin is gently pushed upward by hand, the coronal sulcus area of ​​the glans penis cannot be fully exposed. If this condition persists and affects hygiene, it is considered pathological foreskin. In infancy and early childhood, it is physiological hyperphimosis and is a normal phenomenon. The excessive foreskin that still exists after puberty may cause difficulty in local cleaning and lead to the accumulation of smegma. Some patients may also experience stenosis of the outer opening of the foreskin, resulting in phimosis.

Preputial foreskin can be diagnosed clinically through physical examination, and the doctor will evaluate the coverage and mobility of the foreskin. Commonly used assessment methods include observing the appearance of the patient's penis in its natural and erect state. The doctor will gently try to turn back the foreskin to determine whether there are adhesions or narrow rings.
