At present, the most recognized core steps of basic skin care in the skin care circle are cleansing and moisturizing. However, many experienced skin care experts and formulators also recognize the two major steps of "day protection" and "night repair" divided by scenarios. Both statements are supported and are applicable to different groups of people.
In the past few years, I followed the trend and followed the trend of a more than ten-step skin care routine. I put bottles and jars on the table, which ended up making my face red and sensitive. When I went to the dermatology department, the doctor cut down my skin care routine to only gentle cleansing and repairing moisturizer. I even stopped using toner. After less than three weeks, my barrier was stabilized. Only then did I realize that those superimposed essences, creams, masks, etc., are essentially an extension of the two core steps of cleansing and moisturizing. Cleansing is to help the skin remove dust, excess oil, and makeup and sunscreen residue from the surface to prevent pores from being clogged and causing pimples. It is also a prerequisite for the effective absorption of subsequent skin care products. Moisturizing is to help the skin maintain the outermost barrier, prevent moisture from being lost too quickly, and reduce the occurrence of dry lines, redness, and other problems.
If there is any difference between these two classifications, it is actually the applicable skin care stages. My hairdresser who made skin care product formulations always told me that the cleansing and moisturizing method is more suitable for novices, has a high error tolerance, and will not make big mistakes regardless of skin type. However, if you already have advanced needs such as anti-aging and brightening, it will be more efficient to plan your skin care according to the two major modules of day protection and night repair. For example, the core purpose of everything you put on before going out during the day is "protection." Whether it is sunscreen to block ultraviolet rays or antioxidant essence to prevent dullness, it is essentially a protective shield for the skin to reduce damage from the outside world. When you get home at night, the repair essence and anti-aging cream you apply after taking off your makeup are all used to replenish nutrients and repair damage to the skin during its golden metabolic period. This approach is more suitable for today's life scenes where people have to face sun exposure, air conditioning, and staying up late every day.
If you haven’t figured out your skin care needs yet, it’s right to focus on the two steps of cleansing and moisturizing first. Once you are familiar with your skin condition, you can then adjust according to the logic of protection + repair. There is no need to worry about which method is right. The one that suits you is the most effective.
