Watery discharge of leucorrhea may be related to physiological factors or pathological factors. Common causes include increased secretions during ovulation, bacterial vaginosis, trichomonas vaginitis, cervicitis, hydrosalpinx, etc. If it is accompanied by symptoms such as odor, itching or abdominal pain, it is recommended to seek medical examination in time.

    1. Increased secretions during ovulation

Elevated estrogen levels during ovulation lead to increased secretion of cervical mucus, which manifests as clear, thin, watery leucorrhea that is usually not itchy or smelly. This is a normal physiological phenomenon and does not require special treatment. Just pay attention to keeping the perineum clean. If the amount of secretion increases abnormally or lasts for more than 3 days, pathological factors need to be ruled out.

    2. Bacterial vaginosis

When the vaginal flora is imbalanced, overproduction of anaerobic bacteria such as Gardnerella can lead to gray-white watery leucorrhea, often accompanied by a fishy odor. It may be related to factors such as frequent vaginal washing and poor sexual hygiene. It is necessary to use metronidazole vaginal gel, clindamycin phosphate vaginal suppository or oral tinidazole tablets as directed by the doctor, and avoid wearing tight chemical fiber underwear.

    3. Trichomonal vaginitis

Caused by Trichomonas vaginalis infection, it typically presents as yellow-green foamy watery leucorrhea, accompanied by obvious vulvar itching and burning sensation. It can be transmitted through sexual contact and needs to be treated by a partner. Commonly used drugs include metronidazole tablets, tinidazole suppositories, nifurtel and nystatin vaginal soft capsules. Sexual intercourse is prohibited during treatment.

    4. Cervicitis

When gonorrhea or chlamydia infects the cervix, it may cause a large amount of thin purulent watery discharge and occasionally bleeding after sexual intercourse. In the acute phase, ceftriaxone sodium injection combined with azithromycin dispersible tablets is needed to fight infection. For chronic cervicitis, Baofukang suppository can be considered for local treatment. If not treated promptly, ascending infection may lead to pelvic inflammatory disease.

    5. Hydrosalpinx

When the fallopian tubes accumulate water due to inflammation or endometriosis, they may intermittently discharge a large amount of clear fluid, which is often accompanied by lower abdominal pain or infertility. The diagnosis needs to be confirmed by ultrasound or salpingography. In mild cases, Guizhi Fuling Capsules combined with antibiotics can be used. In severe cases, laparoscopic surgery is required to clear or remove the diseased fallopian tubes.

You should choose pure cotton breathable underwear and change it daily, and avoid using alkaline lotion to rinse the vagina. Regular work and rest can help maintain immunity and reduce the risk of infection. If watery leucorrhea lasts for more than 1 week, or is accompanied by fever, pelvic pain and other symptoms, you need to go to the gynecology department as soon as possible for routine leucorrhea testing, HPV testing and pelvic ultrasound examination to identify the cause and provide targeted treatment. If abnormal discharge occurs during pregnancy, you should be more vigilant to prevent complications such as chorioamnionitis.
