How long does sexual dysfunction treatment take?

There is no unified time standard for the treatment of sexual dysfunction. Most mild patients without organic disease can see significant improvement in 4 to 8 weeks. For patients with chronic underlying diseases, congenital developmental abnormalities or severe psychological disorders, the treatment period may be as long as 3 to 6 months or even longer.

I just received feedback from a 28-year-old patient last week. He had weak erections and rapid ejaculation due to being too nervous after his wedding. Hormones and cavernous body ultrasound were checked and there were no problems. It was just a simple psychological problem plus a long-term bad habit of high-frequency masturbation, so I prescribed it to him. I ordered short-acting PDE5 inhibitors to help him build up his confidence first, taught him behavioral training such as the squeeze method and the stop-and-go method, and told him not to stay up late and smoke less. After just over 5 weeks in total, he sent a message saying that he could now have normal married life for more than 10 minutes, and his partner was quite satisfied.

But don’t think that everyone can do it so quickly. The year before last, I treated a 45-year-old business executive. He had high blood pressure for 6 years and diabetes for 3 years. When he came here, he was completely unable to have erections on his own. This is a typical vascular ED caused by chronic diseases. The first step of conditioning is not related to sexual function at all. First, he was transferred to the endocrinology department to adjust his blood pressure and blood sugar, and he took medicine to improve microcirculation and nourish nerves. There was almost no significant change in the first two months. It was not until the third month that his blood sugar stabilized within 6 on an empty stomach that morning erection gradually returned. It took almost half a year for him to have normal sex life.

Nowadays, different medical systems actually have quite different judgments on the conditioning cycle. The Western medicine system prefers to treat the cause. For example, for patients with simple primary premature ejaculation, dapoxetine combined with behavioral training can achieve a clinical effectiveness of 70% to 80% in about 8 weeks. If it is an organic problem such as venous leakage, it may be possible to recover within one month after surgery. However, if it is irreversible nerve damage caused by pelvic surgery, long-term medication may be needed to maintain function. The conditioning logic of traditional Chinese medicine is more towards overall adjustment and replenishment. Whether it is a functional problem caused by kidney deficiency, dampness and heat, or liver stagnation and qi stagnation, most recommend conditioning at least in a 3-month cycle to bring the overall body condition back before stopping the medication to avoid recurrence of symptoms. This is also the reason why many people think that traditional Chinese medicine is slow to achieve results. In fact, the conditioning goals of the two are different.

Oh, by the way, don’t believe those wild advertisements about “7-day cure” and “one-time effect”. Those Sanwu products that are immediately cured after taking them are basically added with large doses of PDE5 inhibitors. They are just for temporary relief and are not considered conditioning at all. Just like if you have a fever and take ibuprofen for half an hour, it can reduce the fever, but it does not mean that you are cured of the cold. If you really want to make up for it, you have to give your body some time to react, right?

I have been doing this for almost ten years, and I have come into contact with as many as 800 patients. To be honest, medication only accounts for half of the speed of treatment. The other half depends on whether you can follow the doctor's instructions. There was a 32-year-old patient who had no organic problems, but stayed up until 2 or 3 o'clock every day to catch up on projects and drank heavily at least three times a week. After 3 months of hardening, his erection was still poor. Later, he changed his position and did not work overtime. He promoted all the drinking and went to bed before 11 o'clock every day. Within a month, he came to me and said that his morning erection was much harder than before. Some people find behavioral training troublesome and give up after two or three days of training. Then they turn around and ask me why I haven’t recovered after taking medicine. Then it will be useless if you take medicine for another year.

In fact, there is really no need to worry about how long it will take. Everyone's physical condition, living habits, and even the cooperation of their partners are different. It is normal for some people to be fast and others to be slow. If you are really anxious, record your changes every week, such as whether there are more morning erections and whether the hardness is better than before. There is no need to compare your progress with others. If there is really no improvement after two months of treatment, then change your mind. Maybe your previous treatment direction was wrong. Try a few more methods and you can always find the one that suits you. After all, the most important thing is to be able to improve the problem and live a comfortable life in the end, right?
