Smoking a cigarette can also be harmful to the body. Harmful substances such as tar, nicotine and carbon monoxide released by tobacco burning can directly irritate the respiratory mucosa, increase the risk of vasospasm, and may induce DNA damage. A single smoking can stagnate the movement of bronchial cilia for 40-60 minutes, reduce the clearance capacity of the respiratory tract, and increase the risk of colonization by pathogens such as Streptococcus pneumoniae.
4. Blood vessel damage:
Free radicals in smoke can oxidize low-density lipoprotein, and a single smoking can cause endothelial dysfunction for 4-6 hours. This accumulation of damage will accelerate the formation of vascular plaques and is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.
5. Addiction risk:
Nicotine triggers the release of dopamine by activating α4β2 receptors in the brain, and a single cigarette may establish a reward memory. Research shows that 17% of people who try smoking become regular smokers within a year of smoking their first cigarette.
It is recommended that you rinse your mouth with warm water immediately after smoking to remove the remaining tar in your mouth, consume kiwi fruit or broccoli rich in vitamin C to help with antioxidants, and perform aerobic exercise for 30 minutes to promote nicotine metabolism. Long-term smokers should undergo annual pulmonary function tests and coronary CT evaluations, and passive smoking environments also need to be avoided. Any smoking behavior will cause health damage.
