Wang Guoqiang, deputy director of the National Health and Family Planning Commission and director of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, said on the 14th that it is necessary to focus on the formulation and implementation of the "Strategic Plan for the Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine (2016-2030)" and other plans, actively promote the legislation of traditional Chinese medicine, continue to promote the deepening of various reforms such as medical reform, vigorously develop traditional Chinese medicine health services, accelerate the inheritance and innovation of traditional Chinese medicine, focus on strengthening the construction of traditional Chinese medicine talents, accelerate the development of ethnic medicine, and fully promote the overseas development of traditional Chinese medicine.

According to Xinhuanet, Wang Guoqiang quoted statistics at the 2016 National Traditional Chinese Medicine Work Conference held in Beijing today and pointed out that compared with the end of the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan", the number of traditional Chinese medicine hospitals increased by 500, an increase of 15.5%, and the number of traditional Chinese medicine outpatient departments and clinics also increased by 531 and 5,890 respectively. In 2014, the total number of visits to TCM hospitals was 530 million, an increase of 170 million or 47.2% compared with the end of the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan", accounting for 17.9% of the total number of visits to hospitals. The average outpatient cost and per capita hospitalization cost are 12% and 24% lower than those of general hospitals respectively. Traditional Chinese medicine has achieved higher benefits at lower costs, amplifying the effect of medical reform on benefiting the people.
