Recurrent bacterial vaginosis usually resolves, but requires standardized treatment and long-term management. The disease is mainly caused by an imbalance of vaginal flora and manifests as abnormal leucorrhea, odor and other symptoms. Recurrence can be effectively controlled through medication adjustment and lifestyle intervention.
Recurrence of bacterial vaginosis is often caused by incomplete treatment or persistence of predisposing factors. Some patients stopped taking the medication on their own or did not complete the course of treatment, resulting in incomplete elimination of the pathogenic bacteria. Factors such as daily use of irritating lotions, frequent sexual intercourse, and decreased immunity may disrupt the balance of the vaginal microenvironment. Standard medication requires the use of metronidazole vaginal suppository, clindamycin ointment and other drugs for a full course of treatment as directed by the doctor. If necessary, the spouse needs to be treated simultaneously. Vaginal douching should be avoided during relapse, choose cotton breathable underwear, and use condoms during sexual intercourse to reduce cross-infection.
A small number of patients may have delayed recovery due to drug-resistant bacterial infections or underlying diseases such as diabetes. If the standard treatment plan is ineffective, vaginal secretion culture and drug sensitivity testing need to be performed, and sensitive antibiotics such as tinidazole tablets need to be adjusted. Long-term recurrence may increase the risk of pelvic inflammatory disease, premature birth, etc. When combined with symptoms such as frequent urination and lower abdominal pain, ascending infection should be investigated. For those who have more than four attacks within a year, low-dose antibiotic maintenance treatment can be used, and vaginal probiotic preparations can be supplemented to adjust the flora.
Keep your vulva clean and dry, and avoid wearing tight synthetic underwear. Reduce the intake of high-sugar and spicy foods in the diet, and appropriately supplement yogurt containing lactobacilli. Change sanitary napkins frequently during menstruation and wash your perineum promptly after swimming. Establish a regular schedule and exercise moderately to enhance immunity. If the symptoms are repeated or worsened, it is recommended to go to the gynecology department for vaginal microecological testing, and if necessary, extend the treatment cycle or use combined medications.
