What should be the condition after circumcision surgery?
Mild edema, mild pain and local scabbing are usually the symptoms after circumcision surgery, which are normal postoperative reactions. Postoperative status is mainly related to the surgical method, personal physique and nursing conditions. Most patients gradually recover within 1-2 weeks.
Within 24 hours after circumcision, there may be a small amount of blood oozing from the wound surface, and there will be light red exudate from the dressing. This is a normal phenomenon caused by surgical trauma. Mild edema will appear on the head of the penis and around the incision 2-3 days after the operation, and the skin will be shiny but without signs of suppuration. The degree of edema varies from person to person. A thin yellow or light brown scab will form at the incision site, and there is usually no abnormal discharge. The pain will be significantly relieved 3-5 days after the operation, but there may be temporary swelling and pain at night due to physiological erection. If absorbable sutures are used, the sutures usually begin to fall off in 10-14 days. There may be a slight burning sensation when urinating within 1 week after the operation, but there is no difficulty in urinating or thinning of the urine stream.
If the incision continues to ooze blood for more than 24 hours, the edema worsens with redness and heat on the skin, the purulent secretions increase with a peculiar smell, and severe pain affects sleep or difficulty urinating, it may indicate complications such as infection or bleeding. If there is still obvious edema or sutures that have not fallen off more than 2 weeks after surgery, or the incision is poorly healed and forms granulation tissue, factors such as abnormal individual healing ability or improper care need to be considered. A very small number of patients may experience tight penile skin caused by excessive circumcision, or scar contracture at the frenulum that affects erectile function.
After surgery, you should keep the wound clean and dry, wash it 2-3 times a day with the disinfectant recommended by your doctor, and wear loose cotton underwear to reduce friction. Avoid strenuous exercise and sexual stimulation for at least 4 weeks. Eat a light diet and consume more high-quality protein and vitamin C to promote healing. Regular follow-up visits are required 1 week and 1 month after the operation to check the healing status. If fever, persistent pain or abnormal secretions occur, you should seek medical attention immediately. It is forbidden to remove the dressing or scratch the wound during the recovery period, and avoid soaking the incision for a long time when bathing.
