US scientists study head-balling can damage brain
Seeing the football players heading the ball heroically, many children also studied hard. But parents are worried: Doesn’t it hurt to head the ball? In fact, this is not just about pain. Recently, the "Scientific American Website" wrote an article pointing out that heading the ball can also cause damage to the brain.
A study by the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the United States found that people who head the ball for a long time (such as football players) have brain nerve changes, the same as those with head trauma. The results were presented at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America.
Researchers say it's okay to head the ball occasionally - in most cases the ball won't directly damage nerve fibers. But frequent heading of the ball can cause critical joints to deteriorate. The study found that players who headed the ball between 1,000 and 1,500 times a year had this change in their brains. But for children whose brains are delicate and in a period of rapid development, heading the ball may still damage the brain even if they are not as frequent as athletes.
